[So, you've survived your first—or fiftieth, or five-hundredth—day in Quiet Mounds. Tonight, it's raining—or, it's not. Maybe you're trying to get used to your new, quiet apartment. The electricity is buzzing in that way that's hard to ignore, a silence so loud it's deafening, in that poetic sort of way.]

[Or maybe you're one of the sad sacks still working at the 24/7 joints. Or their why-am-I-even-up-this-late customers. You're the reason why capitalism does this to people, you know.]

[ disdainfully. but it also seems like he's. joking...??? ]

[his shoulders sag slightly, and he seems about to resist, but then just . . . gives up, hanging his head and stepping inside]

A bother is one who forces their company on others.

[ wandering through the apartment towards the bathroom to shed his layers of robes and hang them on the door-- he doesn't leave any drips or water trails on the floor whatsoever.

he leaves the bottom layer of his robes on, of course, white and dry and tied loosely around his waist. ]

Undress in the bath. You can draw some hot water, if you'd like. Your clothes will be dry by the time you are done.

... I am not asking you to walk around naked, boy. I'm asking you to remove your clothes for a few minutes so I can draw the water from them. I'd assumed doing it while they were on your body would feel somewhat violating.

[a too-long pause, before he steps inside, slowly starting to tug his clothes off. he's at least wearing a t-shirt and jeans, now, as well as a zip-up hoodie, instead of the all-white getup]

anyway he heads into the kitchen while he does that. ]

[ and given like five minutes or so his clothes maybe have some small wet spots but are. otherwise dry??? not vanyel's body though he'll have to use a towel for that. ]

[yes, he can use a towel. he's fine with that]

anyway whenever he comes back out again there is a pot of tea on the table. smells nice! ]

[dressed again, towelling his hair, then just. stopping and staring and looking like he's about to cry]
