[So, you've survived your first—or fiftieth, or five-hundredth—day in Quiet Mounds. Tonight, it's raining—or, it's not. Maybe you're trying to get used to your new, quiet apartment. The electricity is buzzing in that way that's hard to ignore, a silence so loud it's deafening, in that poetic sort of way.]

[Or maybe you're one of the sad sacks still working at the 24/7 joints. Or their why-am-I-even-up-this-late customers. You're the reason why capitalism does this to people, you know.]

I'll be careful, thank you. I've got hot tea and a bath waiting for me whenever I decide I'm finished.

Good. I don't mean to be henlike; I hope you'll excuse the advice.

I don't mind it at all. It's a nice change of pace; usually I'm the one mother-henning.

[personal profile] wrongstory 2017-05-20 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
[a little amused] Is it usually taken so graciously?
ghostfromthemachine: (and the less I seek my source)

[personal profile] ghostfromthemachine 2017-05-21 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it certainly isn't taken ungraciously...

Unless I'm being particularly bratty about it, anyway. I have been known to shut off electronics in the middle of use to enforce both bed and mealtimes.

[personal profile] wrongstory 2017-05-21 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds very responsible to me.
ghostfromthemachine: ((let's have a talk about--))

[personal profile] ghostfromthemachine 2017-05-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
It was very responsible! But it was also done to my mother.

[ giving him a very wide-eyed look as she tries not to completely lose her shit laughing. a little squeaky ]

That's... goodness. You have no idea how on the nose that is in this case.

[personal profile] wrongstory 2017-06-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Should I be sorry to hear it?
ghostfromthemachine: (the closer I am to fine‚ yeah)

[personal profile] ghostfromthemachine 2017-06-11 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ah— no, no, but thank you. She's just... mm. One of those people who tends to assume the best of others, and so doesn't always account for those who don't? It's resulted in what can only be called a tragedy of errors that took a long time to work out—though it has worked out—and my sense of humor is bad enough I thought it was funny.

A tragedy of errors...

It sounds like she's lucky to have you as a daughter.

[ half-muttered ]

You don't need to be sorry to hear it, but I'm certainly not calling it a comedy—

...ah.
