[So, you've survived your first—or fiftieth, or five-hundredth—day in Quiet Mounds. Tonight, it's raining—or, it's not. Maybe you're trying to get used to your new, quiet apartment. The electricity is buzzing in that way that's hard to ignore, a silence so loud it's deafening, in that poetic sort of way.]

[Or maybe you're one of the sad sacks still working at the 24/7 joints. Or their why-am-I-even-up-this-late customers. You're the reason why capitalism does this to people, you know.]

[Stands awkwardly where he is, snagging the broom from where he has it leaning to have something to do with his hands.]

He mostly said you know your way around a sword. In a literal way, not in a figurative sexually-charged way. He didn't get around to mentioning what you were supposed to be a genius about.

He's not wrong, I'd probably label myself more of a laser guy. And the genius is sort of general genius, but I do build a lot of robots.

[brewing like, a quadruple espresso]
clocked_out: (yeah ill see what i can do)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-16 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Robots are ok. Like semi-sentient, automated puppets. Not my thing but my bro's into that.

It's true, robots are okay. AI is the goal.

[still making his coffee]

Easy to get close, hard to perfect.
clocked_out: (but still i weep)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-18 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
When you talk about 'perfecting' it kind of sounds a little creepy, like you're cultivating it for some nefarious purpose.

Kid, if I were going to go super-villain, it would have been long before now. Don't lose any sleep over it.
clocked_out: (now were getting into meta not giving a)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-19 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
So what's the deal? God complex?
appliedscience: (16)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-19 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[giving him a deadpan look, but then:]

Probably. Doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-19 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[vague handflap]

Calm down, I'm not trying to like, morally interrogate-slash-psychoanalyze your impulse to make sentient life.
appliedscience: (7)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-19 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[nods]

Cool. Then we're good. Let me know if you ever want to see a semi-sentient computer system.

[heading back towards his office]
clocked_out: (running the fire along your thumb)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-20 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, let me know if you ever want to meet a fully sentient one??

[crap did I piss him off]
appliedscience: (4)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-21 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[turning]

You know a sentient AI?
clocked_out: (now were getting into meta not giving a)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-21 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I'm sorta related to one. My bro made an AI out of his brain a few years back and he's around.
appliedscience: (1)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-22 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Around as in here?
clocked_out: (jesus get me a fucking pen)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-22 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes the imminent kind of aroundness.
appliedscience: (16)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So consciousness and not body.
clocked_out: (now were getting into meta not giving a)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-25 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Last I heard he was embodied in an angular pair of compushades.
appliedscience: (17)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-25 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
To clarify - he is sentient sunglasses.
clocked_out: (now were getting into meta not giving a)

[personal profile] clocked_out 2017-05-26 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I gaunran-damn-tee that he has used that exact verbiage to describe himself except he probably tossed in an appropriately radical adjective for 'shades'.
appliedscience: (4)

[personal profile] appliedscience 2017-05-28 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Fine. Sentient shades. How do I meet him? Where are the radical shades?
