which is to say, the entire town is darkly overcast and gloomy, and starting in the morning, there are scattered showers intermittently around the town. it's light enough that it isn't bothersome, barely noticeable, really, but you may find yourself feeling a bit different after you've past through one. like it's taken a few years off your life— quite literally.

I haven't been offworld before. I've barely been out in my own before. I've been at the Academy since I was sent away from my mother's estate.

[ah... nods]

It was a little scary when I got here, but it's not a bad place to be. You shouldn't have to be here very long. What's the Academy?

[whispers] The Academy at Wynt? [oh no of course she wouldn't have heard of it] The Academy of Languages and Arts. I was studying performance.

Oh? I like learning about science more than the arts, but that's impressive. There's computers and a movie store here if you want to watch different shows.

[helplessly] Okay.

Sorry, it must all be overwhelming. You can relax and have fun here, is what I meant.

Are there other kids?

A few. There's not as many of us as there are adults. There's the children that are from here, but they're very... vague.

Vague?

Hmm... They don't seem to think about very much, and they don't really pay attention to the people like us who aren't from here. They aren't mean or scary, just... well, vague.

Yes, so they don't make for good friends. I go to the farm a lot to make friends with the animals instead, myself.
