[ Bamboo trees line the shore of the lake tonight, trailing papers from their branches. Each one is inscribed with a wish mysteriously left by...someone. Some of them are generic, like "world peace," and others are kind of weird and random, like, "fishes with candy scales."

But if you touch one, the text on it might turn into one of your wishes. Maybe it's something innocuous, but maybe it's one of your deepest secrets.

Well, maybe you don't go to the lake tonight. In any case, the stars are luminously bright overhead, and looking at them instills you with a strange sense of nostalgia... ]

[ Juliet is sitting with his back to one of the bamboo trees, holding a wish paper in his hands. It doesn't seem to have very much written on it, but he's holding it to hide the words from detailed view. ]

[Steve was just wandering by to appreciate the stars, but he pauses after stopping to examine one of the strips of paper, looking down at it quietly]

. . .

[approaching, quiet for once, hands tucked in the sleeves of his own jackets]

. . . Steve?

[starspangledman]

Vasily? What is it?

[tucks the paper away, reaching out to him]

[divasterous]

[leans a little closer, sighing. gaze following that a little]

Noth . . . ing?

[starspangledman]

[slides his hand over Vasily's shoulders, rubbing softly]

Doesn't sound like nothing.

[divasterous]

. . . what did yours say?

[starspangledman]

[pauses a moment]

A place to belong.

[divasterous]

Oh . . .

[he swallows, looking up at Steve, then away, over the lake]

[starspangledman]

[looks down at him, squeezing against his shoulder]

What about yours?

[divasterous]

I didn't . . . take one?

[starspangledman]

No...?

[divasterous]

Isn't it a bit scary?

[starspangledman]

I didn't really know what it was until I took one.

[divasterous]

[hesitates]

Is it . . . things that you want that you don't have?

[starspangledman]

[shakes his head]

I don't think so. I feel like I belong with you.

[divasterous]

[. . . smiles, a little tremulous]

Is that, um. Really a place, though?

[starspangledman]

[brushes his knuckles across Vasily's cheek, soft]

It might not be, but it's what matters to me.

[divasterous]

[ducks his head, leaning forward to rest against Steve's shoulder]

I want . . . to be able to give that to you. I—

[starspangledman]

[folds his arms around Vasily, holding]

Vasily?

[divasterous]

It's not like I'm glad you feel that way. But I understand it. And I don't think . . . a lot of other people have understood . . . that? About you.

[starspangledman]

[he's quiet a moment, rubbing a hand over Vasily's back]

I'm not exactly jumping at the chance to tell people about it. But I'm glad that you understand.

[divasterous]

Why—not? I mean . . .

[starspangledman]

[he shrugs a little]

No one's asked about it? The right time hasn't come up. That sort of thing.

[divasterous]

I guess not . . .
