[So how do you feel about getting into the holiday spirit? Because with all that wine around from the Bingo victories someone's put a sign up outside Heavenly Grounds today advertising a ~holiday party~ There's festive decorations with mulled wine, hot toddies, spiked egg nog. You name it, it's there to get you plastered.

And I guess there's cookies and fruit cake and stuff too, but who needs food when there's drinking?]

[Bucky leans into the touch and her arm goes around his back.

If he comments on it, she'll blame the wine. Maybe it is the wine.]

[Steve's not commenting, he's just pulling her in, nuzzling against her hair lightly]

[in that case, she leans in a little more, letting her head rest on his shoulder.

She changes the subject, grasping for something else.]

Thor thinks we should get a dog.

[Bucky should recall Steve is a very touchy feely drunk]

[adjusting his hold, slipping his arms around Bucky's waist]

[She settles against him. A part of her brain is expecting alarms to go off, to tense up. But it's Steve, and she's relaxed.]

Maybe it's not that long. I just admitted I might have cried once when I got too drunk and thought about all the fact all the dogs we knew when we were kids had died.

[Is that girly?]

So he said I should get a dog. He almost asked you for permission for me.

You don't need my permission to get a dog, Buck.

Maybe not your permission, but it'd be pretty rude to get a dog without asking you if I'm crashing in your spare room.

[which she's not ready to stop doing yet.]

I guess so. But come on, a dog would be great. Who can hate a dog?

I didn't think you'd hate a dog. I just thought I should ask before getting a dog.

Well, consider this me telling you it's okay if you want to get a dog.

[this is a confusing conversation. head still on his shoulder, she sort of twists to try to see his face]

[he shifts back enough to look down at her, still holding on]

I thought this was about you getting a dog.

It's sort of about me getting a dog. But you have to live with the dog too. But it sounds like you want a dog.

Then we’re getting a dog.

[her smile is pleased. They’ll have to find out if she really goes through with it later, but for now, she’s happy with the plan-]

[he's so happy too, squeezing against her waist]

[she laughs softly, smiling, leaning into him a little more.

[yes, hugging. Though Steve's hands are sliding to the small of her back, petting]

You can stay as long as you like, Buck. I want you there.

[that also seems okay. maybe? physical affection? can be okay?]

I like being there. More than I like being alone.

[all the physical affection for Steve]

You'd offered me the same back when Mom passed. It's the least I can do to return the favor.

That was over seventy years ago, buddy.

It's never too late to repay a favor.
